Our Library - Resources for Theologians and Laypeople

Church of the Redeemer’s Library is open to the public. Call, email or come by to reserve a book.

Jim Babcock - Resource Specialist

Acquisitions librarian Jim Babcock turned his love for books on Biblical Studies, Theology, and Christian fiction into growing a library for Church of the Redeemer.  His original goal was to provide books that would be of use and interest to Sunday School teachers, supplementing  books that were already in the library.  As the library grew, he realized it could be of use to supplement most pastor's libraries, to help with their sermon preparation.   Today, as examples, the library has 6-10 commentaries  on every Bible book, about 8 Bible dictionaries/encyclopedias, 15-20 Bible atlases, 3 major systematic theology texts, 4 or 5 OT and 4 NT theologies.

Jim has taught Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, and Old Testament at a well known seminary in the Chicago area.

Ellen Layman - Coordinator

With years of work and experience as a Librarian with the National Library of Medicine, Ellen Layman is integrating her love for God with her love for books. Ellen has played an instrumental role in developing our library system at the church. She has dreams of seeing this special room in our church utilized for informing, forming and transforming lay people and pastors alike.
